Kabissa - Space for change in Africa

Kabissa logoKabissa (derived from the word for "completely" in Kiswahili) is a volunteer-led network that supports African civil society organizations to make the best use of ICTs for the benefit of their communities. Kabissa provides an online platform where people and organizations working in Africa can showcase themselves and connect with each other for peer learning and information sharing. There are currently more than 1500 organizations in the Kabissa network that are working on a broad range of development issues around the continent.  The Kabissa portal provides access to a community blog and twitter feed from members,  a discussion list and interactive map of member organizations.

Participatory radio campaigns: from awareness-raising to community capacity development (Farm Radio International)

participatory-radio-africaFarm Radio International has released a three-part research report  - available in English and French - that comprises one of the first in-depth studies of rural radio in Africa. The report highlights practical experiences so far in applying the participatory radio campaigns (PRCs) methodology developed by the African Farm Radio Research Initiative (AFRRI). The first report provides an overview of the PRC methodology. The second report examines the effectiveness of radio-based market information services (MIS) for smallholder agriculture. The last report presents results from integrating newer information and communication technologies with radio to create more effective farm radio programmes.

The sixth international conference on ICT for development, education and training, eLearning Africa 2011, will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 25-27 May. The conference will focus on youth, skills and employability, exploring among other questions: How are people and organizations, both globally and in Africa, coping with skills deficits and the employability crisis? Why are these deficits not being addressed effectively by our education systems? What skills development and lifelong learning programmes are under way to help address these shortages? 

e-Agriculture is a global community of practice where people from all over the world exchange information, ideas, and resources related to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for sustainable agriculture and rural development. Members aim to contribute to the formulation of better policies and processes around the use of ICT in support of agriculture and rural development with the ultimate goal of improving rural livelihoods. The network has more than 7,000 members from diverse backgrounds, including information and communication specialists, researchers, farmers, students, policy makers, business people and development practitioners.
