The Learning Network on Capacity Development (LenCD) is an informal network of analysts and practitioners aimed at creating a global community of practice around capacity development. Its objectives are to facilitate the sharing of lessons and distill quality criteria for good practice; promote research, share experiences, monitor outcomes and carry out other empirical work; foster country-level, regional and international dialogue and collaboration; promote the mainstreaming of capacity development issues into agency operations; and act as a key partner to advance the OECD/DAC’s capacity development agenda. Capacity-Net is an informal and external knowledge network hosted and moderated by UNDP Capacity Development Group. The network was launched in February 2007 and currently has over 1,400 members. The network is open to development practitioners and experts who are interested and engaged in capacity development work. Members include UNDP staff, UN agencies, Government representatives, academic and research institutions, civil society, private sector, regional institutions, and members of the wider international development community. European Commission re-thinks its capacity development approach, post-Busan

The European Commission is exploring ways to reorient its technical cooperation approach in
line with the outcome of the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, which underscored
the links between capacity development and development effectiveness. Building on the principles of
the Technical Cooperation Reform (backbone strategy) and the lessons which have been learnt after
two years of implementation, the Commission is currently updating its guidance on capacity
development to integrate it into its overall Project and Programme Cycle Management guidance
(PPCM).

The President’s Office – Finance, Economy and Development wishes to recruit a suitable candidate to fill this position. The Specialist will support the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in facilitating the national efforts for the development management and aid effectiveness. Given that the donor coordination is supported by the Development Partners Group (DPG) Secretariat hosted in the UNDP Tanzania, the Specialist will work closely with the DPG Secretariat on issues related to donor coordination and dialogue with development partners in Zanzibar.

This video conference series is organized as part of a Government of Japan/World Bank programme “ Learning from Mega Disasters: Program of Knowledge Sharing and Knowledge Exchange,” launched in October 2011. The project has developed 33 Knowledge Notes so far, which will be grouped into 6 clusters for the GDLN knowledge-exchange sessions. The objectives of the KS sessions are to: (i) share initial findings and lessons from the Great East Japan Earthquake with practitioners throughout the world, and (ii) exchange views among experts on how these lessons could be transferred and adapted to developing countries.
Learning for sustainable development at Rio+20 (vote for your favourite courses!)

At the June 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) - commonly referred to as
the Rio+20 conference - there will be a parallel Sustainable Development (SD) Learning event taking
place, consisting of multiple training courses on crucial aspects of sustainable development.
70 courses
grouped under 12 broad SD themes will be offered. The courses aim at providing participants with
practical knowledge and hands-on training from experts around the world.
In preparation for the event, the UNCSD Secretariat invites interested parties around the world to review the proposed courses and vote on their favourites! The voting deadline is 13 April 2012.

Since 2008 the Eldis project at
IDS Knowledge Services has hosted an online resource library, The Eldis Governance Assessments
dossier as part of a long-term partnership with the UNDP Global Programme on Democratic Governance
Assessments. To mark the end of this collaboration Eldis collated a selection of documents from the
library on to a CDROM. The disc contains over 200 resources from a range of different experts,
institutions and organisations that work in the field of governance assessments. It is designed to
provide detailed, practical information drawing upon evidence about what works, and identifying
innovations in approaches, policy and practice. Eldis is trying to identify potential users for the
CDROMs by means of a short survey (click

The UN system in Zambia supports development operations in the country through the activities of UN system agencies represented on the ground. In addition, as the country is moving towards becoming a lower middle income country the coordination between bilateral and multilateral development agencies is critical to ensure that Official Development Assistance (ODA) has the desired impact during the country’s transition. The UN Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist works under the direct supervision of the UN Coordination Specialist. The M&E Specialist collaborates closely with RCO staff members, the UN inter-agency M&E Working Group and UNDAF Outcome and Joint Programme groups, as well as with Government and Cooperating Partners.

Following the publication Policy and Operations Evaluation Department (IOB) evaluation report of the effectiveness of Dutch support for capacity building in developing countries, this follow up conference will implementation of the report's recommendations.
Capacity4dev.eu is a growing online community for development practitioners. This interactive platform was set up by EuropeAid to enhance knowledge through the exchange of practices on effective international cooperation. Capacity4dev.eu provides an open forum for all commission staff, partner countries, other donors, researchers and civil society representatives to share ideas and expertise.There are currently more than 2000 members participating in 100 groups, of which 14 fall under the broad area of Capacity Development and Technical Cooperation reform.
Active Learning Network on Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Assistance (ALNAP) is a unique, sector-wide network that brings together the major actors involved in international responses to conflicts and natural disasters. Established in 1997, following the multi-agency evaluation of the Rwanda genocide, ALNAP is a collective response dedicated to improving humanitarian performance through increased learning and accountability.
