this risk is acknowledged, the experiences discussed in the latest Practice Brief from SNV
Netherlands Development Organisation confirm that poorer groups in small towns and peri-urban areas

responsible commercialisation.

Report of national stakeholder consultations on water in the post-2015 development agenda

This report published by the Global Water Partnership (GWP) summarizes findings from 22
national consultations that it organized between February and May 2013. The consultations aimed to:
identify country needs; obtain a deeper qualitative understanding of national priorities; and
compliment the online global thematic consultation on water. The broad topics covered included
water resources and wastewater management, as well as quality and water supply, sanitation and
hygiene (WASH).
Fourth World Water Development Report: Managing water under uncertainty and risk

The United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR), released every three years in
conjunction with the World Water Forum, is the UN’s flagship report on water. The fourth edition,
published in March 2012, seeks to offer leaders in government, the private sector and civil society
tools and response options to address current and future challenges related to the pressures
driving demand for water and affecting its availability.
Global Campus for water and development underway

Plans are underway for the establishment of a Global Campus for Water and Development based at the UNESCO Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) in 2013. The objective is to close the gap in the broad field of specialist capacity needed in the field of water worldwide by providing more education at a regional level to young talented people via partners and in the future also in collaboration with regional UNESCO-IHE institutes.

SNV Practice Brief: Supporting domestic accountability

Accountability can be an abstract concept, but it comes alive for ordinary citizens if it
involves looking at whether (and how) funding for services is distributed and spent at the local
level. This Practice Brief is the first of a new series prepared by practitioners working with the
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. It helps to shed some light on what support organisations
can do to amplify the voice of local stakeholders in demanding greater accountability from
governments and service providers.

Water and sanitation in Nepal’s Midwestern Region
In the past, efforts to improve access to sanitation in Nepal’s Midwestern Development Region
were hampered by fragmentation and by the rigid mindset of some development agencies. This changed
when the country’s Regional Monitoring and Supervision Office at the Department of Water Supply and
Sewerage stepped in.
