The Leadership Learning Community

LLC-logoThe Leadership Learning Community (LLC) is a US-based nonprofit organization that seeks to transform the way leadership development work is conceived, conducted and evaluated, primarily within the non-profit sector. LLC hosts several "Learning Circles", providing a collective space where leadership development practitioners can share experiences and seek support on a number of leadership topics. While most of these community initiatives are US-based, the LLC website also offers access to an extensive collection of research outputs and other resources, as well as links to learning communities and social networks in the leadership development field.

This course aims to increase good leadership of local authorities by looking at three core competences: developing a vision, managing public services and communicating with internal and external stakeholders. During interactive sessions the participants will learn about the Leadership Benchmark as a comprehensive tool for improving leadership in local government. Ttogether with international experts and practitioners from The Netherlands, participants will explore how to develop a vision for their municipality, improve the financial management of the organisation and strengthen human resources, planning capacity and performance based management. Extra attention will be paid to integrity as well as gender issues in leadership.

The M&L Advisor/Management Coach Lead will be accountable for the technical direction and implementation of the project's M&L program and District Level Management Strengthening activities. The M&L Advisor/Management Coach Lead will report directly to the project's Chief of Party and will have management responsibility for one staff member and one local partner.

Required skills: Master's degree (PhD desirable) in management, public health, business administration or a related professional degree; along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and execute work assignments in collaboration with a diverse team. Demonstrated ability to mentor senior and mid-level stakeholders in management and leadership. Demonstrated ability to engage and work with stakeholders at all system levels. Ability to multitask and carry-out diverse types of office work, and manage varied deadlines. Excellent writing, computer, mangement and organizational skills. Fluency in English and Chichewa (official local language) required. Fluency in other local language/s a plus. Previous work experience on a development project is desirable, preferably with USAID.
