Linking research, policy and practice
Whether viewed from the perspective of development organizations and funders, or the ultimate beneficiaries of such programmes, investing in a strong knowledge base is critical in achieving development impact. A core part of this is ensuring that all policy decisions and actions have a sound empirical basis.
In practice, however, building sufficient capacity to access, adapt and utilize evidence-based research is quite a difficult undertaking. It requires investing both in core research and analytical capabilities (the evidence base) for effective development action, as well as a range of crucial, but often neglected, capacities that are needed to drive the research message home. These include how to: identify and understand the key stakeholders in the policymaking process; adapt to the dynamics of the political debate; get the timing right in disseminating research results; and communicate in a language that policymakers and practitioners can understand.

Apprendre ensemble, puis travailler ensemble
Il y a près de six ans, 18 ONG d’Afrique du Sud actives dans le domaine du développement de la petite enfance se sont réunies en une seule et même alliance. Elles ont établi une plate-forme commune d’apprentissage et d’action associant des femmes prestataires de soins de niveau communautaire qui se consacrerait à l’élaboration de solutions pratiques et durables en faveur du bien-être des jeunes enfants dans le pays. open ICT projects designed to support the poor can make a difference in their lives and
livelihoods. Coordinated by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) the study also sought to
facilitate learning between technologists involved in the design and implementation of these
initiatives, researchers and development practitioners. The project resulted in the launch of a
global network,
Diverse Voices, which
aims to create a new development agenda by building on certain citizens’ experiences and opinions
that are often overlooked.

OPINION
Pour que les programmes d’adaptation nationaux réussissent, il faut que les partenaires des communautés, à savoir les organisations non gouvernementales, les organismes ruraux officiels et les entités administratives locales et centrales, adoptent des méthodes et des démarches de planification appropriées pour appuyer les efforts d’adaptation communautaires de manière efficace. En conséquence, l’UICN a élaboré une boîte à outils qui définit des approches et des méthodes participatives couvrant tout le cycle de l’adaptation, à savoir la planification, la mise en œuvre, et le suivi et évaluation. Cette boîte à outils permet également de relier le cycle de planification communautaire à la planification et aux programmes d’adaptation des niveaux supérieurs.
